Seven Card Stud Poker - Rules

Seven Card Stud Poker is played with a standard deck of 52 cards. Each player after placed an ante into the pot is dealt two cards face-down (hole cards) and one card face-up (door card). Then the first betting round begins, It is followed by the dealing of the next card face-up (4th street). After the second betting round each player is dealt another card face-up (5th street) and then the third betting round appears. Then each Seven Card Stud Poker player is dealt another card face-up (6th street) and the fourth betting round starts, which is followed by dealing of the last card face-down (river). After the last betting round comes the showdown, where every remaining player shows their hand. Players can use any 5 of their 7 cards to make their best hand and the best five-card poker hand wins the pot. In all Seven Card Stud Poker fixed-limit games, the smaller bet is wagered on the first two betting rounds, and the larger bet is wagered after the betting rounds on the fifth, sixth, and seventh cards.

Seven Card Stud Poker - Hi Lo Variant

Another version of Seven Card Stud Poker is called Seven Card Stud Hi Lo Poker (or Seven Card Stud High-Low 8 or better). In this variant of Seven Card Stud Poker, there are two potential winners per hand, one person for holding the best high hand and one person for holding the best low hand, provided the low cards are under the rank of 8. Seven Card Stud Hi Lo is also a technically demanding poker game where the best poker hands for the high and low split the pot at showdown. In this variant of Seven Card Stud Poker players are dealt 7 cards throughout the course of the hand, but only the best five-card hand possible for each player is used to determine the winner. When you play this variant of Seven Card Stud Poker you should have in mind that Seven card stud hi lo is played with an “8 or better” qualifier, which means that a hand must be, at worst, an 8 for low to be eligible to win the low portion of the pot.
